Gathering Together and Announcements: Our “Third Thursday of the Month at 12’noon” Club meeting was held at “KING BUFFET”. As members assembled, various notes were reviewed & some announcements were made:
  • The Cabot Chamber of Commerce is currently taking nominations for both the 2008 (Member of the Year” and “Business of the Year” awards. Deadline for submitting nominations is December 29th, 2008.

  • The 48th Annual Membership Banquet of the Cabot Chamber of Commerce will be held on Friday, January 9th, 2009. The reception will begin at 6:30pm, with dinner being served at 7:00pm. RSVP by January 2nd for reservations.

  • The Arkansas Lions State Convention is scheduled for May 22nd & 23rd, 2009 and will be held in Hot Springs, AR. Featured speaker will be International Director Harold Ott from Pennsylvania. Registration forms will be forthcoming.

Call To Order: President Jeff rang the bell & called the Club meeting to order at 12:21pm.   Lion Laura led us in the U.S. Flag’ Pledge of Allegiance & Lion Rick gave the opening prayer.

Our Pride Losses A Lion: For those who may not have heard, long-time Lion Bill DeVos has left our Club. We will definitely miss him. In an e-mail, dated December 15th, Bill wrote:
Hi gang,
I have a doctors appointment at 11:30 on Thursday and am unable to change the date. One of those required exams. Enough said.
I was hoping this Thursday will be the evening meeting (should have known better) as it would have been my last opportunity to tell everyone how much I've enjoyed being a part of the Cabot Lion's Club. I will really miss the fellowship and casual gatherings. You see, Randa and I are moving to Corsicana, TX (south of Dallas about 45 minutes, population is 22,000 plus) to be much closer to our three adult children. We'll be an hour away from them (they live 30-40 minutes apart from one another) instead of the usual six hour drive. We listed our house for sale and it sold in 2 weeks.  Unbelievable.
We were not prepared for such an event and clearly expected it would take up to a year to sell. We have purchased a home on Lake Richland Chambers and will be moving January 3rd. This train is moving at lightning speed.
I wish you all a very, very Merry Christmas, a happy New Year and a prosperous year ahead. I intend to join the Corsicana Lion's Club upon arrival. The real estate broker we contacted to assist us in finding lake property is a member and has said it's probably the better of all the service clubs in Corsicana. Doesn't that always seem to be the case.
May God bless each of you and your families.
Bill

Guests & Visitors: Lion Laura introduced her guests, the Baileys and Colleen Caldwell. Lion Matt re-introduced us to his two daughters, Jen & Sam.

Tail-Twister: In Lion Jackie’s absence, Lion Rick stepped-up to fill Tail-Twister duty. He asked if anyone could tell him when the last Cabot Lions Club Golf Tournament was held. Lion Kay answered correctly with September 22nd. She won a Golf Tournament t-shirt. As Lion Darla collected the customary fine, Lion Rick also reminisced as to what the original value of our Club fine was established at. Some recalled a 50 cent fine, while others claimed that they could remember a day (many, many moons ago) when the tail-twister squeezed 25 cents out of them. (CLOSED)

Treasurer Report: In Lion Shelly’s absence, President Jeff informed us that our Club “activity” account had a balance of $5,782.13 and our “administrative” account came in at $3153.94. He also stated that a $217.20 check to Harp’s Foods, dated 10/21/08, still had not cleared, but that the amount had been subtracted for this report. Check payment was on an invoice received for meat used at our last Pancake Breakfast. (CLOSED)

Member Birthdays: We sang “Happy Birthday” to Lions celebrating in the month of December, including Lion Karen Frey (12/19) and Lion Greg Ernsbarger (12/26). Those present were treated to cupcakes.

Website Update/Report: Lion Matt reminded everyone that our Club’s website (www.cabotlions.com) is once again accessible to us & that he is again able to log-in and update the website information. If members have any changes/updates or additions that they wish to be reflected on the website, please submit your data to Lion Matt at any time.  (CLOSED)

Club Meeting Locations & January Dates: Just as a reminder to our Club members, we will be meeting at Fat Daddy’s Catfish House for our two January 2009 Club Meetings. Lion Bill Beckley is making appropriate arrangements. We will temporarily move our meeting dates to the 3rd & 5th Thursdays for the month of January 2009.
Please mark your calendars accordingly: January meetings will be held on the 15th (12’noon) & on the 29th (5:30pm).
The Club will meet at Los Lomas Mexican Restaurant for our two February 2009 meetings. President Jeff reiterated that we, as a group, will evaluate our adventures with new locations at the first meeting in March (at King Buffet) & make a decision on whether or not to move our meeting to one of the new locations. (OPEN)

Program: Mr. David Willard and the Cabot High School Choir entertained us with a variety of festive Christmas carols. A 30 member choral group sang acappella & ended with a rousing rendition of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”. This was the 25th Anniversary of the CHS choir coming to visit us at Christmas time.

Adjournment: Upon completion of the meeting mission, President Jeff adjourned us at approximately 1:05pm.

Our next regular Club meeting will be January 15th, 2009 (12’noon) at “Fat Daddy’s Catfish House”, located at 2797 South Second Street. Please make every effort to attend & bring a friend or two with ya!!
